FAQ
Disavow Links FAQ
What is a disavow file?
A disavow file tells Google which backlinks to ignore when evaluating your site. It's a last-resort tool for cleaning up toxic links that are causing manual actions or algorithmic penalties.
When should I disavow links?
Only disavow links if you have a manual action for unnatural links, or you've been hit by Penguin and can't remove the links manually. For most sites, Google ignores bad links automatically.
Can I undo a disavow?
No. Once you upload a disavow file, you can replace it with a new one, but Google doesn't re-evaluate previously disavowed links unless you explicitly remove them from your file.
What's the difference between URL and domain disavow?
URL disavow targets a specific page. Domain disavow targets every link from an entire domain. Domain disavow is broader and should be used sparingly.
Bad links aren't the only problem.
Disavow is damage control.
