Domain Rating (DR)
Ahrefs' version of domain authority. Measures the strength of a site's backlink profile on a 0-100 scale. Like DA, it's a third-party metric - helpful for comparison, not a ranking factor.
Why It Matters
Domain Rating and Domain Authority measure similar things differently. DR focuses specifically on the strength and quantity of unique referring domains linking to a site. It's a logarithmic scale, meaning going from DR 20 to 30 is much easier than going from 70 to 80.
DR is useful in the same way DA is - as a rough comparison tool. It gives you a quick sense of how strong a site's backlink profile is relative to competitors. But like DA, it's a proxy metric that Google doesn't use.
In Practice
Compare your DR to competitors in your niche to gauge where you stand in terms of backlink authority. Use it to evaluate link prospects - linking from a DR 50 site is generally more valuable than a DR 10 site, though relevance matters more.
Track your DR over time as a directional indicator. If it's climbing, your link building efforts are likely working. If it's flat or declining, investigate.
Don't compare DA and DR directly - they use different methodologies and scales. Pick one and be consistent.
